Master of Yachts (200gt) Unlimited Course Outline
This course is an IYT (International Yacht Training) course presented by PYT Cape at their facilities in Hout Bay and also in Knysna. On successful completion and passing of the course, the candidate will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Competency to operate commercial yachts up to a maximum of 200 gross tons on ocean crossings and passages.
It indicates that the candidate has sufficient knowledge of celestial navigation and can, with the aid of a sextant and the knowledge gained, plan and successfully undertake ocean crossings with a comprehensive understanding of all the factors involved in such a crossing.
Topics covered include the use of a sextant, the basic principles involved with celestial navigation, weather routing, great circle sailing and passage planning.
This is an MCA approved course and requires no further endorsements to be used within the yachting sector.
